Grannie Starlight and her musings...

Grannie Starlight today lives a life in which she does not drink alcohol, use illegal drugs, smoke anything, or eat anything she isn’t willing to kill for herself. That is her choice. She isn’t vice-free or perfect in any way and doesn’t profess to be an expert on anything. Her opinions, advice, and interpretations are her own and sharing them tickles her to no end.

Grannie wants to talk about something that causes a lot of trouble in the world. Most people get them, they are hard to give up and while they can last for endless years, can be so toxic as to sour one’s life as to block out the joy of living altogether. I am talking about resentments. Here is how it looks to me. Someone does something. You take offense, as one would take a cookie from a tray being offered at tea. You have the choice whether to take it or not. You can take one, pig out, even and take a bunch. It is up to you. In this world there will always be a tray offered somewhere in your life. Saying "No, thank you!" IS an option , available to us all.

Taking offense is usually a prerequisite for resentment. With resentment, it is as if someone poked you with a stick and then you took the stick and beat yourself with it, You could put the stick down at any time, but it can be so much fun, in a sick kind of way, to be able to beat yourself and blame the other person, that it can become an addiction. Let someone else come along, try to take the stick away, and you may want to fight them for it. Resentment is to feel again (and again, and again…) but the power to stop it lies within our own heart. When we aren’t busy with such nonsense, we free up a lot of valuable time for positive life experience.

As an experiment try spending one day not arguing with anyone who isn’t in the room with you. It is a trip. It is amazing how much of our inner dialogue is spent talking to people who aren’t even there. I will no doubt bring up this subject again, but for now., check it out.

 Love and kisses, Grannie Starlight
